Goals 2012 – New Playlist On Ipod

Okay so this might seem like a strange goal but I am so lazy when it comes to updating my ipod. I think I’ve had the same playlist on there for years. While I know it’s not difficult to update a playlist, somehow I just always seem to find something else to do.

This is why I like the radio, they shuffle my songs for me.

Update the IPod is the goal. I’m going to say 4 playlists of at least 50 songs each. To be completed by end of April and revisited again in October.

Goals 2012 – Save $1,200

I already have a pretty hefty savings plan in place. Travel is a priority and I always save the year before for the next year. The problem is most of my savings goes to travel.

This 1200 is for a bookcase for the office, a new camera or maybe an ipad.

There are several things I would like that just don’t fit into my budget. So by rolling change, selling stuff, saving from my weekly spending allowance, whatever. I’m going to see how much of a slush fund I can come up with by the end of the year.

Or even half way through the year I’ll check in and see what I can do for the office.

It’s money for me, for whatever I want. Not something I need but something I want.

Goals 2012 – Organize Spare Room

This one relates to the blog and the first draft of the novel but is still separate as the impact goes beyond either of those goals.

I have a nice little spare room, with a desk but I never use it. I sit on the couch or at the dining room table and type and play on my computer there.

If I am going to get a lot more serious about the writing and such then I will need a space in which to do it.

The goal is to set up my desk, get a bookshelf and maybe a comfy chair for the office. To make it a place for me to go and do some work. To lock myself into the room with no distractions and write better blog posts, organize photo’s, write a story, write a novel, organize my finances. A proper spot in which to work.

I used to have one in my old house and I loved it, so it is time for me to pull it together and get my office back in shape.

Goals 2012 – Iceland

This is the trip I hope to do this year. A wonderful friend put the idea in my head a few years ago about doing a layover in Iceland on our way to Ireland. That didn’t work out but I did start looking up Iceland. It’s not a place that was really on my radar before I started to learn more about it.

Now I want to go, it looks so beautiful and I think The Blue Lagoon may turn out to be one of my favourite places ever.

I have the place, now I just need to work out the budget and when to go. Also who to go with, anybody want to join me?

Goals 2012 – Museum

I have been meaning to go to the Glenbow Museum in my hometown of Calgary for years. Yet each year passes and I still haven’t gone. So this year MUSEUM!

At least once, on a day when I have time to wander around and have a really good look.

I used to love the Museum when I was little and used to go quite regularly but now I think it’s been about ten years since I’ve been.

I’ll have to look up what exhibitions they have coming up and then pick a day and go.

Sometimes with travelling I forget to look at what’s in my own backyard and there is some really good stuff in and around Calgary. I just need to remind myself and make the effort to get out.

Goals 2012 – Ride Bike

Ride bike twice week from May – September

I’m not sure what happened last year but I didn’t get out on my bike at all. This must change, I love cycling. Watching and participating. So this year I hope to get a new bike and then I WILL ride my bike at least twice a week from May – September.

Of course I can ride it more if I want to and I’m hoping that once I start getting out, I won’t want to stop. The only excuse not to is if I am travelling. Then I get a pass on riding the bike.

I will go out for a minimum of half an hour but I know that if I do get out I will likely stay out longer. It’s really the getting my ass off the couch and onto the bike that is the hard part. Once there I am glad to be there and don’t want to get off.

Goals 2012 – Draft Novel

This is the “outside my comfort zone” goal, the one that I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember but I’ve just never REALLY put the time in. I was going to choose taking part in “NaNoWriMo” but I think I would need more time for the novel I have in my head. I still might take part in “NaNoWriMo” this year but it’s not a goal.

So I need a first draft of a novel by the end of the year. Will have to look up a reasonable minimum length for a novel. First draft completed by Dec. 31, if I get to cleaning it up then all the better. Then a goal for next year could be to submit my novel. Which rather terrifies me. It’s actually part of why I started the blog, to realize I wouldn’t die if somebody read something that I wrote.

Now that I know I can throw complete crap out into the world (some of the posts have been TERRIBLE) and nothing happens, well maybe I’m ready to go bigger.

I debated starting with a short story as a goal but that kinda felt like a cop out, so a novel it is!

Goals 2012 – Blog

I will continue to blog and amuse you either intentionally or not with my sometimes very lazy writing. Believe it or not I have a plan. How that plan works out, we’ll soon find out. There will be many travel posts and they will start on January 16, when I get home from my trip.

Did I tell you? I went to Paris for New Years! Yes Paris! I’m sure I had a blast and right now I am in Prague! Then tomorrow I head for Budapest. Not a bad way to start the year and really I needed something to blog about so that I didn’t bore you all with my ordinary life.

I have other idea’s as well but I haven’t fully worked them out yet. The blog is and suspect will always be a work in progress.

The goal then is to post 5 days a week for a year. A lofty goal but I think I can do it. Does a picture count as a post?
